The Dance

5/10/02

Notes and dedication :I wanted to share a little bit about my friend Linda who died a year ago June 4th. She was only 42, with 2 teenaged children. She died of a heart attack one weekend and I was devastated. I only knew her 6 months, as we worked together. But I sat next to her every day and got to know her really well in that time. She was dearly loved by everyone who knew her, as demonstrated by the fact that a collection raised over £100. We used some of that to buy flowers, the rest went to charity in her name. I still miss her a lot, even after all this time. She encouraged me in my writing and she was always interested in what I was working on. Because we worked in a call centre, I could write between calls and she was always looking at what I was doing. When she read one of my slash stories, she was a bit shocked that someone she thought was so quiet and innocent could write something like that, but she liked it. Of the sex scene she merely said "I always wondered how two men did it." After her death, I couldn't write for 6 months and I'm not sure how or why I suddenly became able to write again, but one day I just was. I never really felt we got closure because only her children, ex-husband and current partner were allowed to go to the cremation, but a group of us from work laid our flowers and then went and had a drink in her memory. The hardest thing was when someone else finally had to sit in the seat next to me, *Linda's* seat, 2 weeks afterwards. That made me angry and I couldn't accept that for a while. It brought all of us who worked in the same team together as a family. But when the contract we were working on got cancelled suddenly, most people chose to leave the company, myself included. For me, that place could never be the same again without Linda there by my side.

Sorry to go on for so long, but I really needed to share this tonight.

Obsenad follows, a little bit romantic, I hope :)

The track on the CD player changed and Jim moved from his place by the balcony doors to hold out a hand to Blair.

“What?” Blair looked up from his book in confusion.

“Dance with me, Chief?” Jim asked.

“Dance with you?” Blair repeated. His eyes widened in surprise, then he scrambled to his feet, tossing his book aside carelessly. He had never suspected Jim of being a dancer, but he was willing to give it a try.

Jim drew the warm, lithe body of his Guide close to him and they began to sway to the music playing softly across the loft.

“When moonlight crawls along the street Chasing away the summer heat Footsteps outside somewhere below The world revolves I let it go We build our church above this street We practice love between the sheets The candy sweetness scent of you It bathes my skin I’m stained by you And all I have to do is hold you There’s a racing in my heart

I am barely touching you

Chorus

Turn the lights down low Take it off Let me show My love for you Insatiable Turn me on Never stop Wanna taste every drop My love for you Insatiable

The moonlight plays upon your skin A kiss that lingers takes me in I fall asleep inside of you There are no words There’s only truth Breathe in Breathe out There is no sound We move together up and down We levitate our bodies soar Our feet don’t even touch the floor And nobody knows you like I do The world doesn’t understand But I grow stronger in your hands

Chorus

Turn the lights down low Take it off Let me show My love for you Insatiable Turn me on Never stop Wanna taste every drop My love for you Insatiable

Turn the lights down low Take if off Let me show My love for you Insatiable Turn me on Never stop Wanna taste every drop My love for you Insatiable

We never sleep we’re always holdin’ hands Kissin’ for hours talkin’ makin’ plans I feel like a better man Just being in the same room We never sleep there’s just so much to do Too much to say Can’t close my eyes when I’m with you Insatiable the way I’m loving you

Chorus

Turn the lights down low Take it off Let me show My love for you Insatiable Turn me on Never stop Wanna taste every drop My love for you Insatiable

Turn the lights down low Take it off Let me show My love for you Insatiable Turn me on Never stop Wanna taste every drop My love for you Insatiable”

Blair rested his head against Jim’s broad chest, enjoying as always being held close by his love, being enclosed in the warm protectiveness of those strong arms.

Eventually, the track ended and Jim reached out a long arm to hit repeat on the CD player, not interested in any other tracks right now.

They circled through two more repetitions of the track, until eventually they moved naturally up the stairs to their bed, loving each other as the track played one final time below them and through the long silence of the night that followed, enjoying being together, treasuring each day.
